Out on the 6th October 2023, “Careful Steps” by (the) Buried Heads is “DIY psychedelic bossa nova instrumental. It starts slow, then goes fast, then slow again, and then fast.”

And that is a pretty accurate description. I would add that, when it goes fast it’s like a band of monkeys banging kitchen utensils, which is part of its appeal. Tell me I’m wrong, try for yourself.
Fifteen years in the making
This 2 minute masterpiece was fifteen years in the making. It could be the theme tune to your favourite space-age family sitcom, rerunning worldwide forever. Or, if it were the theme tune to the news maybe world leaders might just chill the $&*? out.

The Heads speak
The Heads tell us that the song was recorded over 2 days in their home studio located in North West London. Notable facts include, the bass drum is in fact a blank canvas picture frame being hit with a drum stick. And, the song gathered dust for well over a decade, having been abandoned due to their inability to tame and balance the numerous tracks they’d recorded.
“After we’d laid down the foundations of it, everyone wanted to add more parts, but weren’t really sure what those parts should be. And so became our usual descent into the abyss. We ended up with all these tracks and it just became a mess and we got sick of it.
“Years later I came across it and just muted all these unnecessary layers and it revealed the enthusiasm we all felt at its inception.”
So, I asked, do (the) Buried Heads have a different approach to recording these days? Are you more efficient, productive?
“No, still the same but with less enthusiasm”.
“Careful Steps” by the Buried Heads is available by the time you read this, on Bandcamp, and most streaming platforms.
