(the) Buried Heads give us a brief performance from their London bedroom HQ. But this time, ditching the guitars, in full rave DAW-less (sans Digital Audio Workstation or, without computer, to the layman) jam mode.
The Heads say this mode is something they’re working lots on at the moment, with a view to take it on the road, blow some speakers, cause earthquakes with the power of their basslines.
The instruments used in the video are: Korg Volca FM, Moog Mother 32, and an old SoundMaster Stix drum machine.
They say that they were initially overwhelmed by the equipment, not knowing how to have all the devices ‘singing’ along together, until programming all patterns in the same key C, noting the combinations that worked particularly well together.
In practice, changing things up once every 2, 4, or 8 bars works well. But this can be tricky, attempting to change the settings on 2 or 3 bits of kit at the same time. Luckily, graduating between combinations is a bit like a DJ mixing 2 records.
Without trying to be authentic, the Buried Heads are in a 90’s / 2000’s rave mindset. Specifically, the basslines they loved. They look forward to takin git out of the bedroom, to a proper sound system, although it’s a worry that speakers may be damaged if they go overboard on the knob-tweaking.
But even if they press the wrong button , or press the right button at the wrong time, expect to see more of this sort if thing from (the) Heads.
